Expat vs Immigrant (C1-C2 speaking class)

This week, I have created a lesson plan based on a controversial topic in many countries. The difference between the terms, ‘expat’ or ‘immigrant’. It follows a basic introduction, a first set of vocabulary based on a definition of these terms and second set based on an interesting video from a Youtube travel vlogger.

Be aware that much of the vocabulary in this topic is a bit tricky, so use it with confident students that absorb vocabulary well. This is also a hot topic right now so be culturally aware and remember to explain terms like ‘privilege’ as objectively as you can so students can make up their own minds about it. I hope you find it useful and it inspires an interesting discussion in your classes!
